Who Inspires The Influencers?

A funny detail that some forget is that whenever you see a public person there are usually other people who are part of the package as well.

A professional artist or musician doesn’t just materialise out of thin air without inspiration or guidance.

Likewise an online influencer who is pushing some sort of product is probably doing so due to brand deals, endorsement deals or could be creating positive, un-paid for propaganda content in the hopes of landing a sponsorship deal.

There is always more than what meets the eye.

My reason for writing this tonight is that I’m currently compiling a couple of new blog books. The entries have been published on the internet anyway so I see no wrong in transforming them into books and putting them up for sale. In fact that will probably look way more orderly, especially with explanatory introductions, etc;

I have already one blog book under my belt with entries written in 2015 & 2016, and there is way more to come.

By simply looking at my fist year of keeping a blog there are four categories that present themselves:

  1. Super fun entries about what I do professionally together with my mom/manager covering: award shows, travelling, lesson learnt as a musician and career highlights.
  2. The everyday toil of being a creative, independent musician with all its ups and downs
  3. Well written (or ok written) opinion pieces, thought experiments and book reviews. Inspired by current events, history, life, and topics discussed within the home.
  4. Filler content or what would become outtakes when compiling a book.

It is a good idea to get some sort of an overview as a blogger. In total I’ve written over 624 WordPress entries, a great deal of them with a 10k + word count, some have been deleted since I thought of them as silly or pointless. In addition to that I write by hand all of the time + that I’m a songwriter and constantly find myself in a creative process.

I’m currently playing with the idea of shutting down my blog next year or at least radically change it, since I have other things that I would like to prioritize time wise. This has been my hobby ever since 2015 and I’m not quite sure which label would be the most accurate one: habit or “online addiction.”

My first brush with opinion pieces was back when I was 17 years old and had to have a guitar break. My most productive blog year was 2017 when I was ill and down for the count. So I always turn to writing if I’m not doing well health wise + that it is a very accessible medium since no recording studio or art supplies are needed.

I’ve run a bit out of steam this year when it comes to “The Daily Walk” which I also did at the age of 18 when I was co-running a political zine. At a certain point I just flagged out and didn’t follow the news for 7-8 years.

Being a creative artist is a bit more fulfilling and interesting to me than commenting on destructive people starting wars and ruining the planet.

I will organise everything that I’ve written here on WordPress so far and then I’ll see where I’ll go from there. Whenever I start a chapter I also enjoy concluding it.

I’m a bit more excited by the idea of making more picture books for children & a new illustrated lyric book for my latest album! That will mean more art & less words!

Blog Break!

I’ve gone back to recording and playing. I’m currently working on “Berit-Vol.2” and feel way more energised this year than what I did when I first started working on “Berit-Vol.1” If you want to follow and support the making of my new album then please go here: Please support my music! It is also possible to support my creativity via PayPal., and get the same rewards as a Patron.

I’ve already written several new pieces of music this year that has nothing to do with the “Berit” series, I’ve also gone back to proper practising and have picked up the creative pieces from before I got sick.

Back in 2016 it appears that I had made it my mission to complete the lyrics and concepts for my unreleased metal music, in addition to this I find myself overwhelmed by an abundance of audio notes, written notes, etc; featuring song ideas, lyric ideas, book ideas, character ideas, you name it.

I feel very strongly that I need to sort out as much of this as possible, in addition to this I have lots of ideas churning in the back of my mind in regards to relevant/timely blog entries, but I’ll let those simmer in the background as I finish up on all of these others things that are “cooking.”

The other day I was out in town doing something unusual in this day and age; browsing through library books on the quest for references for my 2nd illustrated lyric book. I will probably post a picture of my 1st illustration as I’ve only shared this with my followers on Patreon so far. I made a pretty cool artwork last year and have pretty much mentally mapped out how I want my new lyric book to look like so now it only remains to put all of the individual pictures together. Here are some pictures from my 1st lyric book, it is available as an ebook right here: ILLUSTRATED LYRIC BOOK the physical version is only available through my Patreon.

As I’ve regained my inspiration and drive I’ve lost interest in regularly blogging so I’ll take a break from this hobby, at least until I’ve sorted through all of these lyrics, story ideas and songs that are spread around all over the place.

Until then.

WordPress Problems…

So I have this re-occurring problem here on WordPress where I sometimes cannot access the “new editor” since I only get up a white page with the WordPress logo.

The upside is that you can still edit inside the “old editor,” the downside is that if you want to contact tech-support you will be directed to the blank page in the “new editor” … which means that tech-support is useless unless you can access the “new editor.”

The same thing goes for the management of your payments. If you fear that you are having problems since your payment is due you cannot even check your status or payment plan since this will also direct you to the “new editor.”

Tech-support on WordPress is stellar and instant whenever you need it, or it is, if everything is up and running and working.

I’ve figured out that everything is operational when I’m using a different browser, so if you are experiencing the same you know what to do!

Having A Consistent Schedule For Your Posts.

Hi there to everyone and anyone who reads my blog “The Daily Walk.”

This is an announcement that I’ll try something new:

  1. I will now try to publish entries at the same time every single day or every other day in order to have a consistent and predictable blog-schedule. This is recommended everywhere when it comes to uploading content, so I’ll try to be more predictable since most people enjoy routines. My current bet is that it will be smart for me to share blog entries at around 01:00 AM my time, so you can expect an entry from me at: 01:11 every night. It could be that I’m wrong it could be that I’m right, but I will now try one week of scheduled posts with all of them being published at the same hour. That will take away some of the spontaneity, but it might prove to be a success!
  2. Some of my entries will from now on be “spoken entries.” This is an extremely convenient way for me to create blog-content, it’s quick and easy and will diversify my blog! I don’t know what people thought about my two previous entries that were both spoken, but they did attract a lot of traffic to my site, so I take that as a good sign.

Thanks a lot for being a reader of my blog! Keep in mind that this is an “organic-blog” where my entries are updated and eventually turned to private after a couple of years. If you enjoy my blog and my writing then make sure that you check out my first blog-book: Thoughts.

My 2nd blog-book will be released this year as I’ve previously mentioned.

“Be Yourself” they said!!! :O

The number one advice spewed out into the social media world by successful “influencers” is: “Be Yourself!”

Just the other day I was looking for some information regarding music gear and stumbled upon a music vlog where the host was sitting bare-chested, clearly intoxicated, mumbling barely audible instructions into his microphone.

I’ve been in the receiving end of links to brand new YouTube channels featuring hosts doing everything in their power to come across as hyperactive, frantic and basically crazy.

Advising people to just be themselves makes it easier for smooth talking charlatans or brand aware entrepreneurs to gain even more ground while their potential competitors self-sabotage by simply “being themselves.”

Let’s take a look at the way that I’ve used Instagram in the past for an instance.

I did my first post on the social media site in 2014 after receiving my first smart phone.

What did I post? A photo of the Ancient Aliens box set I received for Christmas. Currently my like count on the picture stands at: 22

Now Instagram was never our number one marketing tool. I did not have much of a following on there, had other pages that were our main focus and was never consistently  active on the site.

Fast forward to 2019 and so far this year I’ve posted 51 posts with:

  • 38 of them falling into the “self-promotion“ category (since they are photos/videos of me),
  • 2 of the pictures are still of me but they are joke posts, (so that’s 40 out of 51 pictures being of me),
  • 3 are of fans (pictures sent to me from my followers posing with my CD)
  • 5 are of personal objects including artwork for sale and
  • 3 features written text (a giveaway instruction, a thank you flier and a screenshot of my Twitter)

Any picture of me whether professional or self-taken has over a 100 likes with many going into the 200 likes category etc;

Music posts with clips from my music videos + pictures of me = awesome.

Pictures of personal objects and/or text/quote posts = not so much.

Which is what I observed when going through my Instagram posts from previous years and why I made a conscious decision to change things.

The irony of course is that someone might look at all of this drawing the conclusion that this “commander-in-chief chick” must surely be a narcissist!

Several years ago I remember that a photo of me rehearsing with a bare belly was uploaded to Facebook and the reaction was of course very positive.

This was not done to fish for compliments or to boost a fragile ego, it was put out there to increase buzz and social media reach!

This is why online-profiling can be so very inaccurate, because what is more important to you? Posting a picture from your favourite passage of a book receiving maybe 30 likes or posting a photo that gets you 300 likes and lots of engagement from your followers? The more people engage the more your content spreads which is why it is wrong to claim that “unfiltered-be-yourself“ content seals the deal!

Likewise I love writing on my blog. It is my number one favourite hobby yet even though I’m not a beauty blogger I find that my number one most popular entry of all times is the one that I wrote about skincare!

Blog posts where I write about myself or posts featuring pictures of me even if there is no interesting content in the post itself gets lots of buzz.

Self-help is also high on the list along with “how to“ articles.

What do I prefer to write about? The world, society, ideas, thoughts, books. I like to think about ideas and concepts so if I was to be myself I would just write about this while bombarding my Instagram page with all sorts of nonsense that wouldn’t mean anything to anybody else but myself!

What do I like more than anything else?

To sell music because this is ultimately what I’m all about and what I know!

This is my passion, my craft and my talent!

So keep this in mind next time someone tells you to just be yourself on the internet! ❤

My 2nd Blog Book.

Today I set a great deal of my blog entries to Private for the simple reason that I intend to create another book.

Nobody pays me to write on this blog and as I’ve said before: I started this since there was a demand for me to share whatever I’m up to.

After two years of publicly blogging I decided to create my first blog-book. I realised that there were enough entries for two books: one about my experiences as an artists and another one dedicated to opinion pieces and book reviews.

New Book

My artist book contains so much useful knowledge that it could and should be synced up to speaking engagements etc; which is why I put it together but decided to publish it on another occasion.

I did however release a blog book which can be purchased via Blurb. You can see it to your right if you are reading this on a computer or you can find a link to it if you keep on scrolling downwards.

My apologies if you are looking for entries that are now unavailable!

I publish as I write, which means that my content is available for free for a considerable amount of time.

I will also make some changes to the topics that I address this year since my most popular entries are the ones about beauty and self-help!

I will continue to write book-reviews but will cut down on news-related entries.

If you don’t want to pay for what I write I urge you to pay close attention to when I release something.

If WordPress keeps on being a thing and nothing strange happens then you can expect that entries written in 2019 & 2020 will be set to Private in 2021!

Thanks a lot for reading my blog, please make sure that you check out my other work!

Starting A Blog?

BLOG

For sometime people have been telling me that I should have my own Blog and every time someone has suggested this I’ve been asking myself: Blog about what? Guitars? My endless daily practice routines? Outside of music I think my life is utterly un-bloggable, so the idea seemed ridiculous. This year though after realising that pretty much everyone has a blog, I figured I should start one as well, and write about things that are “un-bloggable” and/or whatever comes to my mind; Like my old sweater for example 😛 or bad hair days or maybe no-make-up-selfies 😛
Everyday  pretty much I go for a run or quick walk (it is usually 6 miles), and considering how uneventful that is, I figured that would be a good starting point for this under-whelming concept. This is why I decided to call it “The Daily Walk” as I thought that this might sound mundane enough. People often assume that the lives of artists are 10x more eventful than their own, but the truth is that if you are ever to master an instrument, repetition and routine are key elements. If I was to publish my practise diary ( yes I actually have one ) or if I was to film a normal day in my life, it would either involve me travelling to do a performance, or me just sitting still with my instrument, playing the same thing over and over again. The truth is dear reader, I believe you would be bored to death 😉 Let me then introduce you to my very un-bloggable blog, let’s see how it goes!
