Norway Trip November 2017.

Standard

There has been a lot of bad news these last years coming from Norway as members of the oldest generation have left us one by one. Illness has taken its toll on many as well. So it was with a heavy heart that I left for Norway this time around since the occasion was a funeral. I didn’t really feel like taking any pictures and felt very strongly that the ceremony was for us only, and not for social media or my blog for that matter.

With me I had my mother who thankfully travelled with me. We always have such a good time when doing things together, and this trip was no exception, despite the circumstances. It was great to have her there next to me as we said our last goodbyes to a grandparent that meant a lot to me.

Funerals are really tough and I felt extremely silly as I was standing there crying for all to see, even though I was trying my best to hide it. Not that I succeeded.

The highlight of the journey was the fact that we got to say hello to plenty of people that we normally don’t see. It felt really ย good to come back home again to England though, I have to say. There isn’t a lot of respect in Norway, generally speaking, towards musicians and artists regardless of how good you are, even receiving airtime on TV doesn’t shield you from intrusive questions and well-meaning ill-placed advice.

Each time I return home to England from abroad I love it more and more, probably because it now feels so familiar after many years living here, combined with good memories from my music, not to forget the fact that our abode looks amazing.

As I’ve written before it has been so good for the family that my mother remarried, it felt so right to come home and hug my lovely siblings. Family is really important, and whenever a dear one leaves us we get a reminder of the greatest of unions: souls that connect.

Birthday Time!

Standard

The mighty, unsinkable Titanic hit an iceberg on the 14th of April, this date also happens to be my birthday!

My day was off to an ideal start as I hung out in the local town with some really great people! I truly enjoyed my night out! This morning though I was woken up by my family standing by my bed singing ย … so it’s good that I was drinking responsibly … ufff … it sucks to be hangover … not only is it unhealthy, unflattering, painful and everything in between, it is not particularly classy either if you are a woman/girl … it’s so much nicer to just have some pints and chill out. Not that I was ever a heavy drinker nor a regular one either, in fact anything but. I always felt strange as a teenager being the only one turning down weed, cigarettes, never trying drugs of any kind and/or only drinking occasionally. It takes guts to be honest if you really don’t like the taste of liquor for example in a culture where “not drinking” instantly labels you as “extremely awkward.” I guess the point I’m trying to make is that it is preferable to either have no relationship to alcohol or a healthy, moderate one, something that isn’t really promoted in a way, culturally, if you think about it…….

Today I received one of the coolest gifts anyone has ever gotten me! A typewriter, and not any old type writer either. It is light, comes in a sleek 50’s bag and doesn’t make much noise either. It is an Olivetti Lettera 22 !!! A proper vintage classic, in fact an iconic modern artefact :):):):)

It’s absolutely fascinating to have an “acoustic” machine, to be able to write without a shining screen, without constant notifications popping up all over the place, having “instant print,” not to mention the fact that there is no spell check of any kind. This puts a lot of pressure on the writer as you really need to know your “stuff,” which is particularly hard if you are dealing with another language ๐Ÿ˜‰

I love the font on my typewriter as well. It is precisely the kind that I’ve enjoyed using when writing the books that I’ve been working on lately.

Fascinating to sit and write on “old-fashioned-machinery,” I’m just intrigued by the whole technical aspect of it. Think how amazing it is what human beings are capable of! It is truly magnificent.

I started working on two separate stories instantly and hope to be very productive with my typer. That’s a thing as well: no one can hack you at all whatsoever if you are creating “acoustically,” interesting how “old gadgets” seem more enchanting than new ones!

It’s a good idea to detach oneself from the “enslavement” of the smart phone. Outsourcing phone numbers, addresses and simple maths to your handy companion is not good for the memory!

Besides gushing over my gift and wonderful flowers I had a great day, writing, hanging out and eating amazing food.

My lovely sister made a fantastic yule log all by herself. It looked fantastic with lights and the whole shebang. My mother cooked up a lovely feast for us all ๐Ÿ™‚ She is an amazing cook!

Tomorrow I’ll be getting ready for something as abstract as a holiday :O Who would have thought? This time I’m actually heading someplace warm as well, so prepare for Instagram pictures hash-tagged with “the south.”

Needless to say there’s been a lot that has been blog worthy as of late, lots and lots of information, news, etc; Such as benefit fraud in the UK, young UK people who are struggling so much that they need assistance from organisations that usually help people in Africa, genuine homeless kids in the UK who are being taken advantage of and the overall glorification of the plight of the overworked in the USA.

I’ve received a lot of hits on my skin care entries over the last weeks so I was wondering if the time had come to do another blog entry for female readers again, specifically, addressing women’s/girl’s issues. In terms of big politics, which is always intriguing … the right divided itself over Trump’s strike in Syria, raising the question in my brother’s mind of “who are really the people?” It is an interesting question worth pondering … ย all I see are differing opinions and denominations regardless of which political platform that is the “umbrella organisation.” Not much new-information is needed for people to part in terms of what they support and believe in, even when the core principles might be the same.

There was a terrorist attack in Sweden, which oddly left the nation shocked … there was an attack in Russia, that no one in the western world seemed to care much about, then there were horrible attacks on Christian churches and worshippers of the faith in Egypt … the whole “flag filter” thing seems to have disappeared? I guess there was too much turbulence … it is probably good to hush things down as much as possible I assume … Millennials are apparently more conservative than previous generations, the government are cracking down on Alt-righters, Shia “the flag waver” is not doing particularly well in the UK with his latest movie and so on and so on and so on.

So much to read … so much to write … so little time !!!!!

Wedding Pictures + Other Pictures Taken In June.

Standard

June is coming to an end. Here are some pictures from this month, including some pictures from my mothers wedding. Enjoy!

the blesssing 2the blessingIMG_9015

The wonderful wedding pretty much lasted for an entire week. Mom and James got legally married in Denmark and then had a pre-wedding party at home + the blessing with the vicar the day after and then a very small after-wedding party on Sunday. All of it was amazing!

So this year I went to my first Golden Gods and walked my first red carpet in the UK. I haven’t really found that many pictures from the event at all. So it seems like the least covered Golden Gods Awards of all times. Few pictures are out there if any and I’m certainly not in any of them as of yet ๐Ÿ˜› Glad I’m featured in a video from my first red carpet appearance in Los Angeles! Goodbye March, Hello April :)

Another month of the year was over not too long ago, and what a great month that was ๐Ÿ™‚

I had a great Easter celebration and a great St. Patrick as well! ย Music wise the classical album kept on selling and we launched a promo vid for my upcoming release, which is now available for pre-order ๐Ÿ˜‰ Not long now till I have the actual physical CDs in my hand and not that long till I’ll be playing the classical music live either ๐Ÿ˜€ Wo-ho!

When you’ve been living in the UK for way too long, you re-create the “meal-deal” when you are abroad ๐Ÿ˜› See what I mean?

IMG_0130

When my stay was over at the hotel, I had the most amazing host ever. An old family friend of ours called Kjell. A former business man, he told me of all of his adventures from doing business in Africa, to being a ski instructor in California, from being a teacher, to working at a hospital being in charge of a number of exciting things. He told of fist fights with a gang in America, hunting trips to the Balkans next to what would become Tito’s hunting lodge and a scandalous, headline grabbing news story involving a sea plane and a police officer who decided to hang onto one of the floats on said plane, as he was trying to catch the pilot ( a friend of Kjell), who had been shooting whatever deer he could find, which is illegal ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

A very entertaining stay indeed, I had the time of my life. Here you got Kjell, a real life “Indiana Jones” type of character, a proper adventurer \m/

Swimming on top of the Aker brygge skyline in Oslo. The most exclusive area to live in Norway.

IMG_0183 IMG_0182 IMG_0172

If you are ever making Mussels….I’ll help you out a little…

First, you gotta sort them out. Any mussel that is open already from the store you gotta throw away.

IMG_0194

Then you gotta “steam” them. Which means that you need a steam cooker!

IMG_0202 IMG_0204

If a Mussel doesn’t open up after steaming, you have to dispose of it. Steam them until they open up and have a nice orang-y colour.

IMG_0207

Then you are ready to dive in ๐Ÿ™‚

Perfect dinner for two ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_0218IMG_0216

The only thing nicer than reading to yourself, is reading aloud.

Especially if the literature of choice is amazing poetry.

IMG_0221

I love Jakob Sande.

I don’t know if you can find his work in English, if you can’t you should learn Norwegian so you can read this ๐Ÿ˜›

Yes, here is a picture of something seriously mundane. A dishwasher. But I had never seen anything like it and loved that you put your cutlery up there in stead. Apparently it makes your forks & knifes cleaner. So there, I learned something new.

IMG_0225

Hmmmm…..no Cecil the Lion? I used to sleep on top of that Canadian Bear when I was a kid, I would sleepover in the room where all the hunting rifles were. It made quite an impression on me as a child.

IMG_0232

IMG_0234 IMG_0228

IMG_0230

Whenever I was in Norway as a child I always felt that there was a Moose head staring at me. Seriously, there was always a moose head or a reindeer head hanging somewhere when you went to a house.

I remember I saw my “uncle” cut up a Moose once, Jesuuus, poor thing.

There was always a spinning wheel to be found somewhere as well….

IMG_0751

IMG_0834 IMG_0889 IMG_0866

This Ladies & Gentlemen is a proper Norwegian mountain tunnel. I was so fascinated that I took a gazillion pictures and even some films. It’s so tight that only one car can drive at the time, meaning…you got some “pockets” on the side of this…ehm…road..where you can go if you encounter any traffic in the non-existent other lane.

This was very cool though. Notice how you are truly in a cave. Hardly any smooth lines.

IMG_0898

We went for a picturesque drive to check out “Offerdalen” which directly translated, if you were to be creative, sounds more like ” The Valley Of Sacrifice”… sounds very Viking-ish to me!

That is a very Norwegian looking farm btw, that’s the style.

IMG_0928 IMG_0989 IMG_0982 IMG_0980 IMG_0968 IMG_0967 IMG_0964 IMG_0957 IMG_0953 IMG_0951 IMG_0949 (1) IMG_0931

Here they would cut up trees…or would that be timber? Not quite sure how to explain it, but this is old and out of use obviously. They cut down the trees in the forest and sent the wood down the stream and that eventually led the trees here, where they were cut up. These buildings are a fine example of Norwegian heritage when it comes to old buildings and how things were once upon a time.

IMG_0994 IMG_1016 IMG_1008 IMG_1001 IMG_0998

The water is so clean that you could actually drink right out from the stream. I was so tempted but I didn’t dare…I was afraid of catching an infection or something, so silly. If I ever go there again I’ll give it a go.

IMG_1044 IMG_1042

Dad & me.

IMG_1041

This Ladies & Gentlemen is a Norwegian “ute do” ( outside toilet)

It’s obviously the ancient version of toilet. But for some strange reason there is this Norwegian tradition that you should keep a cabin up in the mountains, this cabin should preferably have no water ( so you will have to go and pump it out from somewhere or collect rain water) and to stay true to tradition this cabin should also include the “iconic” “outside-toilet”. So when I was a kid, believe it or not, I also had the privilege of experiencing the “ute do”. I don’t think it is that common anymore now. But here you got one.

IMG_1045

IMG_1048

More of the lovely panorama.

IMG_1060 IMG_1059 IMG_1058

Some information…We had an ancient Stabbur when I was little, in fact we had two. And we also had a house where one half was modern and the other half was really, really old, with a “Grue” which is a fireplace you put a cauldron in & stand upright in…and there was also grass on the ceiling. So pretty, so romantic.
