In so doing it has made me even more aware of who/what follows me, and on Twitter there is an abundance of so-called “music-industry” pages; either in the form of established artists or sites that can apparently make you famous over-night….
These pages offer “pay for play” services where you purchase a package that will boost your amount of followers on any chosen social media site and/or artificially boost the amount of plays you get on a track, or views that you get on a music video…
I don’t know if any of these websites offer genuine help, but it seems dubious to me that there are so many that offer this kind of “deal.” If it is that easy to create online buzz then you would think that everyone would buy these type of packages. I suspect that the vast majority of these sites are scam operations.
The ones who claim that they can hook you up with Major Record Labels don’t even know how to correctly express their mission in English even, but considering how diverse show-biz is, then who am I to judge other people’s language use. (It could be that I’m in the wrong about that one. Yet, it doesn’t look good at a first glance. It looks unprofessional).
It is interesting however, that you’ll be approached by so many of these sites if you are an artist, and it of courses raises the question of whether or not record labels simply pay for their artists to have abnormally high numbers on their YouTube videos, as if thought it is a Golden rule, a guarantee, that a song issued by a Major will go viral…
After today’s Twitter effort I’ve figured out that all of these sites follow me:
As I said above it might be that some of them are genuine, but they are all pretty much about the exact same service and the majority of the sites look unprofessional at best. It wouldn’t surprise me if some of them are owned by the same people, running multiple scams that seem to operate independently from one another….
